South Africa’s Gas-to-Power Programme Attracts 2,830 MW in Bids Against 2,000 MW Target

On 28 October, South Africa’s Department of Electricity and Energy confirmed that four bids offering a combined 2,830 MW had been received under the first Gas Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme window, against a 2,000 MW target. No preferred bidders were selected because the submissions did not meet mandatory gas-supply assurance requirements, leaving potential opportunities for future project preparation, energy modelling and infrastructure development.
